JIRA Compassion Network (JCN) is a national organization dedicated to improving the lives of abandoned children and teenage mothers across Uganda. With a strong focus on addressing the post-COVID challenges that have worsened the plight of vulnerable populations, JCN provides holistic care and sustainable development opportunities to ensure no child is left behind, and every mother has the tools to thrive.
Our flagship program, Safe Haven, located in Kasese District, offers a lifeline to abandoned babies and a supportive daycare program for the children of teenage mothers. Through education, skills training, and empowerment initiatives, JCN is creating pathways for brighter futures.
JIRA Compassion Network is deeply committed to reducing the number of abandoned children in Uganda by focusing on empowering teenage mothers. By supporting these young mothers in relevant fields that enable them to lead sustainable lifestyles, we ensure both mother and child have a chance to thrive.
The Challenges We Face
Abandoned Children in Uganda
•Uganda has over 2.4 million orphans and vulnerable children, many of whom are abandoned due to poverty, stigma, and lack of support systems.
•The COVID-19 pandemic led to increased child neglect as families faced economic hardships and social disruptions.
Teenage Mothers in Uganda
•25% of Ugandan girls aged 15–19 are either pregnant or have given birth.
•Kasese District reported 7,319 teenage pregnancies in 2020, ranking among the highest in the country.
•Many teenage mothers drop out of school and face stigma, leaving them without skills or opportunities to care for their children.
